DEHP is not permitted for use in the European Union in toys and childcare articles or in cosmetics and is subject to certain restrictions in food contact applications.
As with all chemical substances, DEHP has been registered for use in Europe under the new EU Chemicals legislation REACH. Eventually it will also have to undergo authorisation although this is expected to be granted for a number of major uses.
