DEHP is not permitted for use in the European Union in toys and childcare articles or in cosmetics and is subject to certain restrictions in food contact applications.
As with all chemical substances, DEHP will have to be registered for use in Europe under the new EU Chemicals legislation REACH. It will also have to eventually undergo authorisation although this is expected to be granted for its current applications on the basis that its use is adequately controlled.
